Happy Christmas from Workhouse Marketing!

17 12 2010

Campo doing what he enjoys most at Christmas....!

Here’s our 2010 ‘no expense incurred’ Christmas Card! Rather than our traditional video, our in-house photographer Andrew Woodhouse has shot our team doing some of the things that they enjoy doing most over the Christmas period! Hope you like! (And if you scroll over their pics you get a message from them too!)

Please send me an e-mail by reply because if you do, we will give £1 to The Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Here is the link to our card… http://www.workhousemarketing.com/happy-christmas-from-everyone-at-workhouse/

Everyone at Workhouse Marketing would like to thank you for the support you have shown to us this year. We wish you a wonderful Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.

Blackburn Youth Zone Autumn Party

22 11 2010

Above are some pictures of the Blackburn Youth Zone Autumn Party, featuring David Dunn, Wayne Hemmingway, and Diana Vickers. Youth Zone is a project that Workhouse has actively been supporting and giving up our time to help and contribute too. The pics were taken by our in house photographer Andrew Woodhouse, and Workhouse was represented at the event by Graham and his wife Kat.

One of the things we have done to help Youth Zone is produce a DVD which was so well received that we had the following email…not a bad referral I think…

Dear Nicky

I would like to pass on my sincere thanks for the work you have done for OnSide in general and Blackburn in particular. The DVD you produced has truly hit the mark and has been the most effective marketing tool we have ever had at our disposal. I have personally used the DVD in presentations to Her Grace the Duchess of Westminster, Iain Duncan-Smith, Lord Marland, Barry Sheerman (Chair of Parliamentary Select Committee for Children), the entire North West Business Leadership Team (the who’s who of big business in the North West), Sir Michael Bibby….and many more interested parties.

It always has a huge impact.

But the most moving of all was when I showed the DVD to Sir Frank Lowe…who I understand is a Titan in the field of marketing. He was moved to tears and said it was one of the best pieces of marketing he had ever seen.

High praise indeed.

So, a massive thanks from me and the whole OnSide Community. You have created something really special and you should be immensely proud.

Warm regards

Bill Holroyd

Founder and Chairman, OnSide.

The day War broke out, me and Mrs J, Brigitte Bardot, and the Tipp-ex and bear video.

3 09 2010

September 3rd 1939 was the day that war broke out. September 3rd 1983 was the day Nita and I got married! (No similarities implied). That makes today our 27th wedding anniversary, and as my brother would quip ‘we’ve been happily married now for 12 years…’ Here’s a pic from that day in Lavendon Church. I must say Mrs Jones has aged a lot better than I!

Twelve moths ago we also launched the Ribchester Calendar Girls 2010 calendar which has gone on to raise over £7000 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation…and here’s a pic of me and Mrs J that night!

And not all blushing brides end up as lovely as Mrs J…….and to think I once wanted to marry Brigitte Bardot….

Last night I was just having a look at whats been happening on Twitter and amongst all the dross there was a little gem from my erstwhile colleague Steven Carlin who tweeted about this You Tube video for Tipp-ex which is incredibly clever…..

Have a good weekend.

Newport (Ymerodraeth State of Mind)

27 07 2010

Due to my Welshness, many of my friends have seen and forwarded me the link to the You Tube video tribute to Newport, a spoof of the Jay Z/Alicia Keys video Empire State of Mind. This video has been an internet sensation with 1.5 million hits (last time I looked) and it has appeared on the BBC and ITV news programmes, along with the director and the actor and actress involved.

I love it. Not just because it really gets Welsh humour to a T, but it’s an excellent piece of work. Effective communication and good graphic design is extremely simple… it’s the combination of great words and great visual images. And this video is brilliant because it’s well written and well shot. The team behind it, mjdelaney films, are young budding professionals and have created a ‘viral sensation’ that will really help their career no end. If you haven’t seen it….enjoy…

If you’re doing case studies, do them on video.

28 04 2010

In business there is little better than hearing your customers say how pleased they are with you. ‘Case studies’ is the usual terminology, and in b2b marketing especially they are a common tactic. However, showing a static picture, and a bit of text does not have the same impact as hearing it from the horses mouth.

A few months ago Business Link who have helped us with advice and consultancy, and been a client of ours in the past, asked me to be in a video case study for them. The filming was done at Workhouse Studios, our photography studio, and the clip was to be used on the Business Link website. It is now on You Tube, I’m not saying it is a Steven Spielberg classic, but for a quick, low budget 1 minute 20 seconds, it shows how effective a video clip can be.

Unfortunately, the greying, ageing, fat bloke in the video is not the person that resides in my head!
