Every year for the past three years we have enjoyed the football season even more by creating our own football predictor league. Well it’s not exactly our own, we use the talkSPORT predictor league but have our own private mini-league called ‘Workhoouse in a league of our own’.

We are inviting you to join our league, it doesn’t take up long and is a bit of fun….it even makes Stoke v Bolton interesting…!! The last two years our league has been won by Man U fan David Hibbert of Stax Trade Centres, and although we love him to bits, it’s time he was knocked off his perch!

Got a shock when I realised that it’s SIX weeks since we did our last ‘daily’ blog!!  Why? Well the simple answer is that everybody at Workhouse has just been too busy. We are very happy that virtually all our clients are positive and active and communicating with their customers effectively on a regular basis. But even with 20+ staff our blogging, social networking, new website and new business campaigns have had to assume less importance than our main priority which is to delight our clients. Basically customers come first.

We have just passed our financial year end (June 30th) and are in the process of finalising our management accounts for the year, and with fingers crossed we think it’s been one of the best yet. More on this when the jury has finished it’s deliberations.

Our next financial year, will encompass the 20th Anniversary of when Nita and I started the business back in January 1992, and I’m sure there will be a celebration of sorts to recognise the landmark. Before then we have just celebrated the marriage of Campo. Mark wed his bride Clare on 11th June with a fantastic reception and party at Mitton Hall. Jen is due to give birth to second baby on 13th of this month, and Grez and Kat are due for their first on 13th August (which is a full moon!). Our new Digital Account Manager Christine will also be celebrating her forthcoming wedding to Adam. And I do believe James will be marrying Debra in the next 12 months, who is a lovely girl….and a model….and from Brazil….lucky boy!

Christine seems to have clicked with the team...

“Originally from Germany I have always had a love for Britain and used to travel around the UK a lot on my holidays. It was only a matter of time until an English gentleman stole my heart and gave me final reason to pack my things, leave good ol’ Germany and settle in this wonderful place. I love all the great English stereotypes – cosy cottages, pints, pies and pubs, green valleys and haunted castles; and all this comes together at its best in the beautiful Ribble Valley.

I have felt drawn to the Workhouse from the first time I went past. I hold a Master of Arts in German and English, have worked throughout a range of businesses in marketing, PR and publishing and I felt Workhouse was just the right place for me. I took the chance to help out for a couple of weeks, and during this time I found that my gut feeling about this place was right. I was immediately inspired by the creative atmosphere! The wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and professionalism are second to none. I am very happy to be part of this amazing team and I look forward to my future here”.

Everybody at Workhouse is delighted to welcome a new Account Manager into our team, Nicolas Kendall. Nic joins us from The North Space, and this is what he has to say by means of an introduction…

I’m 28 years old, ‘just married’ and live in Barnoldswick. Although originally from Leeds, I have formed a fondness for the Lancashire life and especially the rolling hills of the Ribble Valley. Having graduated a few years ago with an English degree in Liverpool, I started my career in marketing and design firstly at Splinter Communications (18 months) and then The North Space (5 years). In that time I have worked closely with many clients including Silentnight Beds, NHS, Liverpool Mutual Homes, Tullie House Museum and Oldfield Group, delivering creative and results-driven marketing communications solutions.

I was immediately attracted to the role of Account Manager at Workhouse Marketing and have been made to feel very much at home in these first few weeks since joining. The team has lots of personality, creativity and a great track record of delivering tangible results and I’m looking forward to working with all clients, existing and new, on a broad mix of projects.

Away from the studio I enjoy captaining a local football team (to recent promotion!) as well as playing a bit of guitar in a local band.

It is a year to the day that my eldest son Tom opened The Whalley Wine Shop in Whalley (I can’t believe a year has gone by so quickly!). Up to that point I’m not sure he really had a grasp of what his Mum and Dad did for a living! Or paid that much attention to it anyway…

A year on and in an email I got from him yesterday, I think he fully understands not only the importance of marketing but the very essence of it…..Amongst a list of requirements for charity ads, point of sale material, email broadcasts and website  updates, “Dad,” he said, ” I also need a very targeted advertising campaign to make sure it hits exactly the right people for the minimum cost….!!”  That’s it son, you’ve got it….join the club!!

My mantra has always been to ‘reach the right people, say the right things, at the right time.’ It is the essence of good communication. Of course there are now a lot of ways to reach the right people and the skill is in choosing which ways to do it that produce the desired results and don’t cost the earth. The answer to Toms question is what we have been providing clients at Workhouse Marketing for the last 20 years!
